John Keudrick writes, “Higher productivity is chiefly a matter of improving production techniques, and this task is the entrepreneurial function par excellence”. Two keys to higher productivity are research and development and investment in new plant and machinery. George Gilder in The Spirit of Enterprise said that: “Entrepreneurs are innovators who evoke demand’. They are makers of markets, creators of capital, and developers of opportunity and producers of new technology. They seek the unique product, the marketing breakthrough, the startling new, feature or the novel design. They change technical frontiers and reshape public desires. They create wealth and employment. They take exception to the received view that companies should be market led. They lead the market”.
