The four main functional information systems are marketing, human resource, financial, and operational information systems.

Human Resource Information System:

The primary purpose of an HRIS is to support the effective management of human resources by providing accurate and timely information to HR managers. Some common components of an HRIS include an employee database, payroll processing tools, benefits administration tools, and performance management tools.

Financial Information System:

A Financial Information System (FIS) is designed to support the financial function of an organization. The system collects, stores, and processes data related to financial transactions, accounting records, and financial reporting. The primary purpose of an FIS is to provide financial managers with accurate and timely information that they can use to make informed decisions. Some common components of an FIS include an accounting database, financial reporting tools, budgeting and forecasting tools, and financial analysis tools.

Operational Information System:

An Operational Information System (OIS) is designed to support the operational function of an organization. The system collects, stores, and processes data related to the day-to-day operations of the organization. The primary purpose of an OIS is to support the effective management of operations by providing accurate and timely information to operations managers. Some common components of an OIS include a production database, inventory management tools, scheduling and planning tools, and quality control tools.
